What We Do

Providing accommodation for homeless families and single pregnant women.

Rothesay Court

Helping Homeless Families

Rothesay Court provides supported accommodation for up to 22 homeless families; single dads, single mums, pregnant women and couples with children. We have 17 one-bedroom self-contained flats and 4 three-bedroom flats for larger families and 1 two-bedroom flat. Each flat has a kitchen, bathroom and lounge and is fully furnished.

There is a communal lounge on the ground floor where families can socialise and take part in various activities. There are also communal laundry rooms on each floor.

We also have the Activity Club - where children can learn about themselves and their world, providing a safe and stimulating environment for the children and parents. The Activity Club is funded by Children in Need.

Rothesay Court is staffed 24-hours a day and staff members are available to offer support and information.

Each family that comes to Rothesay is different and the reasons for becoming homeless are varied and complicated.

We offer support packages, tailor made depending on the family’s needs. Each support package includes benefits and budgeting, health, training, managing accommodation and if necessary, domestic violence and resettlement.

The team work closely with each other and outside agencies such as health, social care and domestic violence support agencies to ensure the families receive the right support.

The Housing Team consists of:

  • Service Manager
  • Senior Family Practitioner
  • Wellbeing Practitioner
  • Family Practitioners
  • Support Practitioners

We are supported by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to provide accommodation and support to homeless families.

Referrals

Our main referrers are Housing Solutions and Children's Services. Preference for all referrals will be given to vulnerable people who live in Stoke-on-Trent.

The work we undertake is to empower parents to take control of their lives and, by working with other agencies, we are able to offer parents a wider range of support.

Rothesay Court is designed to assist parents to:

  • Increase confidence and self-worth
  • Promote life skills
  • Increase overall independence
  • Reduce the risk of repeat homelessness and the need to use supported accommodation again

We aim to provide a stable and secure environment in a supportive and non-oppressive atmosphere.

We teach life skills to parents who may have negative parenting experience, behavioural difficulties, mental health issues or parents whose lifestyle may put themselves or their child at risk.

Our playroom at Catherine Court, used by all the teenagers in the building, gives the parents the opportunity to interact with their children in a safe and fun environment.

Catherine Court recognises that teenage parents are also “teenagers” and we do not lose sight of this.
