Rothesay Court provides supported accommodation for up to 22 homeless families and single pregnant women. We have 17 one bedroom self-contained flats and 4 three-bedroom flats for larger families and 1 two bedroom flat. Each flat has a kitchen, bathroom and lounge and is fully furnished.
There is a communal lounge on the ground floor where families can socialise together, with a community café run by the resident families. There are also communal laundry rooms on each floor.
We also have the fun and activity club – ‘Play Today’, where children can learn about themselves and their world, providing a safe and stimulating environment for the children and parents. The ‘Play Today’ project is funded by Children in Need.
The project is staffed 24 hours a day and staff members are available to offer support and information. Each family that comes to Rothesay is different and the reasons for becoming homeless are varied and complicated. We offer support packages, tailor made depending on the family’s needs. Each support package includes benefits and budgeting, health, training, managing accommodation and if necessary, domestic violence and resettlement.
The Housing Team consists of a Senior Project Worker, 2 Project Workers, a Mental Health Project Worker, 2 Evening/Weekend Support Workers and 3 Concierge Workers led by the Housing Team Manager. The team work closely with each other and outside agencies such as health, social care and domestic violence support agencies to ensure the families receive the right support.
We tendered and successfully gained the contract through Stoke-on-Trent City Council from April 2015 to continue to provide accommodation and support to homeless families.
Our main referrers are Housing Solutions and Vulnerable Children and Corporate Parenting Stoke-on-Trent. Any referrals for Young People under the age of 18 will be referred by the Housing Needs Officer Young People. Any other referrals we receive will be discussed with Stoke-on-Trent Housing Solution Services prior to acceptence. Preference for all referrals will be given to citizens of Stoke-on-Trent.
The work we undertake is to empower parents to take control of their lives and by working with other agencies; we are able to offer parents a wide range of support. Rothesay Court is designed to assist parents to:
- Increase confidence and self-worth
- Promote life skills
- Increase overall independence
- Reduce the risk of repeat homelessness and the need to use supported accommodation again
